What is the NEAT?

The National Educational Alumni Trust (NEAT) is a group of alumni organizations that formed a 501(c)3 non-profit in 1972. The NEAT’s initial purpose was to offer term life insurance to alumni while creating a source of income for the organizations. That insurance plan, plus several others, now benefits and supports the mission of their colleges and universities as part of The Alumni Insurance Program.

Over several decades, the NEAT has evolved into much more. Today, the NEAT is a group of alumni relations leaders who collaborate to continually improve their profession and develop the next generation of alumni directors.

The Alumni Insurance Program

The Alumni Insurance Program (AIP) is a collection of insurance products that serves the needs of all Alumni — from Term Life Insurance to protect against the unexpected, to Health Insurance plans to cover immediate needs. Personal line products such as Home & Auto, Travel insurance, are also available. The AIP is a benefit from the Alumni Association. Show all plans

How the NEAT Works

  • The NEAT acts as policyholder for insurance plans administered by USI Affinity for member institutions. Having a trust act as the policyholder creates efficiency for marketing and administering the insurance plans.
  • Alumni organizations sign a Participation Agreement to join the NEAT. The NEAT selects and signs an agreement with an insurance program administrator.
  • A staff member from each alumni organization is on the NEAT Board of Advisors. Advisors are invited to an annual meeting to vote on NEAT matters. Advisors can also vote by proxy.
  • Advisors nominate and elect eight Executive Committee members. Each Executive Committe member serves a four-year term.
  • Executive Committee members work closely with the Trust’s insurance administrator (currently USI Affinity) to oversee product offerings, marketing and participation.

Talk with a NEAT Executive Committee member. They can share with you why they choose to be a NEAT client. They would love to hear from you!
